Punjab’s Ludhiana district was rocked by another targeted killing after Kabaddi player Gurvinder Singh was shot dead in the Samrala block late Tuesday night, less than a week after a similar murder of a player in the area. The killing has reignited fears of rising gang violence in the state.
Soon after the attack, a social media post circulated under the name of Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the murder, reported the Times of India.
The post stated that the killing was carried out by “Karan Madpur and Tej Chak” and that the responsibility was jointly taken by Bishnoi gang members Hari Boxer and Arzoo Bishnoi. It also issued a direct threat to rivals, warning, “This is a warning for whoever sides with our enemies. Either mend your ways or be ready for the next bullet to pierce your chest. Either step back, or we know how to wipe you out.”
Police have launched an investigation to verify the authenticity of the social media claims and identify the suspects named by the gang.
Security has been intensified in the Samrala area. The incident follows the October 31 killing of another Kabaddi player, Tejpal, in Ludhiana, suggesting a disturbing pattern of attacks targeting sportspersons in Punjab.
