Deepakk Dutta says actors deserve notice before being removed from TV shows: “Taking someone out overnight is wrong”

With a career spanning television, films, and OTT platforms, Deepakk Dutta has built a reputation as one of the industry’s dependable performers. From memorable roles in popular television shows like Na Umr Ki Seema Ho, Shubh Laabh, Gupta Brothers, and Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi to acclaimed digital projects such as Dr. Arora and Crash Course, he has portrayed a wide range of characters. More recently, the actor has been receiving appreciation for playing Jeevan Ahuja, Neetu Kapoor’s son, in Daadi Ki Shaadi. His film credits also include M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Haasil, and Dil Kabaddi. Deepakk recently opened up about the growing pressure within the television industry, saying that while producers and channels work under difficult circumstances, actors also deserve fair treatment when they are written out of a show.

Speaking in a recent interview, Deepakk said television has become much more demanding after the pandemic. According to him, tighter budgets, daily episodes, and increasing competition from OTT platforms have changed the way the industry functions. “Television is working under very tight parameters today. Producers, directors, technicians and actors are all under pressure because episodes are being delivered almost every day. It has become a very difficult medium to work in,” he shared.

The actor also reacted to the recent trend of actors being replaced or removed from television shows overnight due to ratings or creative decisions. While acknowledging that there can be valid reasons behind such decisions, he believes artists should be treated with respect. “Sometimes an actor may also be at fault. Sometimes the producer and actor may not be getting along, or perhaps someone is unable to work within the production’s requirements. Those situations can happen. But removing someone overnight or without informing them is wrong,” Deepakk said.

He further suggested that actors should be given a proper notice period before being asked to leave a project. “Just as actors have notice periods when they leave a show, there should also be a notice period if the makers want to remove an actor, unless there is an extremely serious reason that makes an immediate exit unavoidable,” he explained.

Deepakk also disagreed with the belief that actors alone are responsible when television shows fail. “No single person can be responsible for a show’s closure. Television is teamwork. There are writers, directors, producers, actors and a large unit working together. Every show has its own destiny and runs for as long as it is meant to,” he said.
